Lending strength to industry

The twin projects of Shamal Plastic Industries LLC and Gulf Acrylic Industry LLC, set up in the Sohar Industrial Estate in the northern region of the Sultanate, were commissioned during the last quarter of 2001. This twin venture is the result of cooperation between some of the best known industrial and investment houses of the Sultanate. The Assarain Group has joined with the Zubair Group, the MHD Group, OMINVEST and Oman Arab Bank to form these ventures.

Shamal Plastic Industries employs extrusion line supplied by CINCINNATI of Austria and produces a range of rigid PVC foam sheets and co-extruded PVC rigid foam sheets. The plant has an annual capacity of 400 MT. Currently, these products are mainly used in the signage industry. However, the product is a very eco-friendly substitute for wood and is being promoted in the building and furniture industry. These applications are likely to be the mainstay of operations in the future.

The Plant is the only one of its kind in the GCC, apart from one in Saudi Arabia. The product is being exported to Europe and the Far East besides all the GCC countries.
