Lending strength to industry

The twin projects of Shamal Plastic Industries LLC and Gulf Acrylic Industry LLC, set up in the Sohar Industrial Estate in the northern region of the Sultanate, were commissioned during the last quarter of 2001. This twin venture is the result of cooperation between some of the best known industrial and investment houses of the Sultanate. The Assarain Group has joined with the Zubair Group, the MHD Group, OMINVEST and Oman Arab Bank to form these ventures.

Gulf Acrylic Industries LLC has a thermoplastic extrusion line supplied by OMIPA of Italy and can process a wide range of polymers including Poly Carbonate, Acrylic (PMMA), ABS, Poly Styrene and High Impact Poly Styrene. The Plant is also capable of producing co-extruded sheets which combine two polymers to give the end user the required functionality. The Plant has an annual capacity of 3000 MT and is the only one of its kind within the GCC, apart from one in Saudi Arabia.

The main applications catered to are signage, protective glazing, skylights & roofing and Thermoforming applications. The product conforms to international standards and is well accepted in many countries including Europe, Far East and Africa, besides the GCC countries.

The operations are professionally managed by a team of Omanis and expatriates with many years of experience in similar fields.
